4.6 magnitude quake jolts northeast India

A slight intensity earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shook the country's northeast on Tuesday morning. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.

A slight intensity earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shook the country's northeast on Tuesday morning. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.

The quake occurred at 6.53am.

According to the Regional Seismological Centre in Shillong, the epicentre was in Assam's Darrang district.

Besides Meghalaya and Assam, tremors were also felt in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

The country's northeast is considered the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
