Self-styled district commander of LeT Usman Bhai and close associate Abu Jibran were killed in a shootout with a joint search party of police and Rashtriya Rifles at Chuntipora village of Handwara in Kupwara on Monday, a police spokesman said.

Two more LeT militants -- Muslim alias Haji and Khalid Bhai -- were killed in another joint operation by police and RR personnel at Watergam village of Rafiabad in Baramulla district.

All the four were Pakistani nationals and a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including three AK assault rifles and a rocket launcher, were recovered from them.

In another operation, a local militant of LeT, Younis Ahmad Mir, was arrested from Shamaswari in interior Srinagar.

Mir, a resident of Bemina locality, was arrested by police during checking and a grenade and 50 bullets were recovered from him.

Militants, meanwhile, carried out a grenade attack on a moving security vehicle at Batakote-Handwara in Kupwara last night but none was hurt.

A grenade was hurled by militants towards a patrolling vehicle of security forces but the device missed the target and exploded on the roadside without causing any harm, the spokesman said.
