Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran, who is facing allegations of corruption and land grabbing, has lost the race for elevation to the Supreme Court, at least for now.

A panel of top Supreme Court judges (collegium) had on August 27 recommended his name along with the chief justices of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, Gujarat and Calcutta — A.K. Patnaik, T.S. Thakur, K.S. Radhakrishnan and S.S. Nijjar respectively — for promotion.

Except Dinakaran, the other four have made it to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan will administer the oath of office to Patnaik, Thakur, Radhakrishnan and Nijjar on Tuesday.

HT was the first to report the objections raised by some eminent jurists to Dinakaran’s proposed elevation.
