50 Cent?s foray into literary street fiction

The rap star has co-written a series of fictional books featuring characters based on former members of his group G-Unit.

After conquering the music world, hip hop mogul 50 Cent is now hoping to take over the literary world with his new series of street fiction.

The 31-year-old rap star has co-written a series of fictional books featuring characters based on former members of his group G-Unit.

50 Cent - whose real name is Curtis Jackson, appeared at New York's Borders bookstore to promote his literary work.

The titles include Death Before Dishonour and Baby Brother.

The books explore similar issues to those that feature in 50 Cent's songs – Death Before Dishonor carries the tagline: "One reason to live. Three reasons to die".

"These tales will tell the truth about 'the life'; the sex, guns and cash; the brutal highs and short lives of the players on the streets," said publishers MTV and Pocket Books.

The launch comes nearly a year after the artist released a memoir about his life up to his success entitled "From Pieces to Weight: Once Upon a Time in Southside Queens."

He achieved multi-platinum success with both albums, selling around 20 million albums worldwide.
