An Indian Army captain and 50 soldiers were served with non-bailable arrest warrants by a local court in Manipur although police were waiting for the Army authorities to hand over the accused who were charged for disrupting essential services.

A police spokesman said the duty magistrate of a local court issued the arrest warrants following a criminal case filed by the police on orders from the state Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh.
"We are waiting for an official communication from the Army authorities to arrest the captain and 50 other soldiers. We understand that the Army might try all the accused in a military court," Clay Khongsai, Police Superintendent of Imphal West district, said on Sunday.
"There are some legal problems in arresting the Army soldiers and the captain although we are doing whatever is required at this stage," he added.
The Army captain and 50 uniformed soldiers brandishing weapons allegedly entered a power installation at Yurembam on the outskirts of the state capital on Wednesday and forced officials to shut down power supply.
The Army soldiers were irked as there was no power supply at their base camp although a state government spokesman said some repair work was going on to rectify a technical snag that led to the disruption of power.
