Till July this year, Delhi Police have booked 6380 persons on charges of drink driving. Last year, 4232 were arrested during the same period, the police said.

In order to crack down on drunken driving, the police have started a major drive near pubs and discotheques. The Delhi Traffic Police have in the past one month started surprise checks near pubs and discotheques where people are subjected to Alco meter tests.

“We have advised pub owners to make alternate arrangements for those who are not able to drive back,” said Rajan Bhagat, spokesman, Delhi Police. “We have asked them to tie up with radio taxis and private cabs so that these customers reach home safely and do not drive in an inebriated condition,” Bhagat said.
