6 injured in stone pelting during panchayat session

Six people were injured when family members of a couple, who had eloped and were later brought back to the village, pelted stones at one another during a panchayat session at a village near here, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday at Kithora village when a community panchayat was convened to decide the fate of the couple, in their early 20's. Suddenly, a quarrel broke out between the family members of the boy and the girl over the issue following which both sides started pelting stones at one another, they said.

Six people, including a woman, were injured in the attack, police said.

The panchayat was adjourned mid-way following the ruckus and the girl and the boy were sent to their respective families, they said.
