Six class 5 students died and 25 others were injured when their school’s roof collapsed in a village in Bijnor district of UP on Friday.
A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against Rishipal Singh and his wife, Uma, who own the Mansa Devi Junior High School, 125km from Meerut. But both were untraceable after the tragedy.
Rampal, father of a critically injured student, said, “Along with the tuition fees, we regularly paid for development of the building which collapsed and our children got buried.”
“Despite our financial condition we paid the fees to ensure a good education for our children,” said Babli, mother of Binsu, who sustained injuries on his head and face. Babli demanded stern action against the owner of the school.
District magistrate Sarika Mohan sought a report from the Chandpur SDM before ordering an inquiry into the incident.
She, however, played down charges of negligence by doctors. “The doctors provided the best possible treatment to the injured. There was no laxity.”
Meanwhile, CM Akhilesh Yadav ordered an inquiry and told officials to provide the best possible treatment to the injured. Chief medical superintendent Dr Satendra Kumar said, “Most of the children have received multiple injuries, including head injuries.”

“We rescued the children and took them to the primary health centre,” said NK Gupta, a local businessman.
