The Rajasthan government has suspended seven doctors for their alleged role in female foeticide cases exposed by a TV news channel's sting operation, an official said in Jaipur on Wednesday.

The doctors -- Sumitra Gill (Jhunjhunu), Shanti Bansiwal (Tonk), Meenu Korpal (Kota), Priyanaka Saxena (Sawaimadhopur), Madhu Mathur (Jhalawar), Rajkumar Choudhary and Seema Choudhary (both Bharatpur) -- were asked to report to the medical directorate in Jaipur and await further orders, Family Welfare Director SP Yadav said.

A chargesheet would be served to all of them and a departmental inquiry will take up their cases, Yadav said.

Health Minister Digamber Singh, who has taken strong exception to the sting operation on female foeticide that was aired on Tuesday, had asked the department to probe the role of private fertility and diagnostic centres involved in such cases, officials said.

The functioning of about 25 private clinics were being looked into, an official spokesman said.
