82,000 pilgrims visit Amarnath, 8th batch leaves Jammu

Over 82,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, while an eighth batch of 2,820 people today left Jammu for the 3,888 metre high Lord Shiva cave shrine.

Over 82,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, while an eighth batch of 2,820 people today left Jammu for the 3,888 metre high Lord Shiva cave shrine.

"The yatra is going on smoothly. Over 82,000 pilgrims have had darshan of the Ice Ligum of Lord Shiva at 3,888 metre high Amarnath cave shrine till today," Shri Amarnath Shrine Board officials said.

All arrangements, including security, are in place to ensure smooth yatra via twin tracks from Pahalagam-Amarnath and Baltal-Amarnath, they said.

Over 7,200 pilgrims are enroute the cave shrine through two tracks from Pahalgam and Baltal for the darshan of the cave shrine, they said.

From Jammu base camp, 8th batch of 2,820 pilgrims left for base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir for their onward journey to Amarnath, police said.

The batch comprising of 2,137 males, 409 females, 49 children and 225 Sadhus left in a convoy of 84 vehicles around 0500 hours amid tight security and have already crossed Batote area, they said.
