True to these immortal lines of Sinatra is the latest line by designer sisters Gauri and Nainika Karan. The sultry seaside – implicitly invoked in the song – is visible through and through in the duo's Spring/Summer '07 collection, complete with flowy skirts, floppy hats and nautical motifs that vividly pepper most of the dresses.
Even the colours have a nautical echo with creams abounding, complemented
with medium browns. Most of the prints are polka-dot affairs, either cream on brown or brown on cream. The entire effect is very chic and elegant, and even mysterious, particularly when set–off by the shades, scarves and sunhats the models were sporting, making them eerily reminiscent of the screen goddesses of Federico Fellini's films.
The dresses have their aesthetics well in place as they facilitate a very light and undulating feel. Halter tops (both regular and cross-halters) were vastly visible. Sleeves of the blouses and jackets ran the gamut from the non-existent to elbow-length, to flared, again in the trademark colours of cream and brown. Gauchos, skirts (both pleated and pencil), shorts and trousers were on show and were drumming in the maritime theme hugely.
