Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes – ahh…

When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes goes – ooh…

True to these immortal lines of Sinatra is the latest line by designer sisters Gauri and Nainika Karan. The sultry seaside – implicitly invoked in the song – is visible through and through in the duo's Spring/Summer '07 collection, complete with flowy skirts, floppy hats and nautical motifs that vividly pepper most of the dresses.

Even the colours have a nautical echo with creams abounding, complemented

with medium browns. Most of the prints are polka-dot affairs, either cream on brown or brown on cream. The entire effect is very chic and elegant, and even mysterious, particularly when set–off by the shades, scarves and sunhats the models were sporting, making them eerily reminiscent of the screen goddesses of Federico Fellini's films.

The collection encompasses many styles – from summer shorts and gauchos to fluttery floor-length dresses with flaring, cascading skirts reminiscent of waves. The chiffons and silk-crepes enhance the lovely illusion of fluidity and weightlessness and render the silhouettes as relaxed, breezy and leisurely.

Believe us, you wouldn't want to wait for next summer if such is the attire in store!
