IT WAS a nightmarish experience, which the SN Tewari family does not want to forget. Tewari is the proprietor of City Model School and resides along with his wife Kanti Tewari, daughter-in-law Anita, granddaughter Rose, two sons Ravi and Saurabh on the first floor of the school, which was made a polling centre. All was well in the Tewari household today till bricks and stones rained from all directions. As there was no way out, the family was virtually trapped on the first floor building.

Completely oblivious of sudden turn of events, the family members had to scurry for cover from barrage of bricks flowing right inside the bedroom through broken windowpanes. The petrified family members had no space to cover themselves as barrage of stones were flowing into the house from all directions. The family had to face the ordeal for more than an hour. Though policemen were present in the school, they were proved to be of no help. It was only after an hour a heavy contingent of police reached the spot, the family heaved a sigh of relief.

Talking to HT, Tewari said, “I informed the police about the incident no sooner the pelting of stones began. Despite repeated requests, police arrived after an hour and anyhow controlled the situation.”

Kanti Tewari wife of SN Tewari said, “I had requested the district administration officials twice to spare the school from making a polling centre but to no avail.”

Despite repeated request, our school was made a polling centre and the outcome was in front of you to judge, added Kanti. The family had a tough time in controlling three-year-old Rose, daughter of Anita.

“My daughter was shocked after the incident and wept inconsolably. We have a tough time in calming her down,” stated Anita. After the incident we switched on her favourite cartoon show on TV to divert her attention and calm her down, added Anita.

SP, Traffic Rakesh Singh and the sector magistrate inspected the house and promised to handover the FIR copy to SN Tewari. However, the officials gave no assurance of compensation.
