However, those who are opposed to the road construction gheraoed the Gorakhnath police station, asking the authorities to stop the work immediately. Meanwhile, the other group put up a road blockade at the Gorakhnath temple to mount pressure on the administration for not creating any hindrance in the construction work.
A delegation of the committee, which is opposed to the road construction, handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate urging him to remove the encroachment from the land. They said that district administration had promised to implement the court order passed in connection with the disputed land. The land number 728 has been registered as a cemetery land in the record, but Ram Lakhan Panday, resident of the same area started a litigation in 1987, claiming for a passage. Ever since then, the case is pending in the court and the burial of bodies was stopped.
The fresh trouble started last month when an MP laid the foundation stone for the construction of the road on the disputed land, ignoring the court directives. The district administration remained a mute spectator. This also sparked off tension in the locality.
