The state government has decided to make it compulsory for teaching and non-teaching employees to get an Aadhaar card in order to get their salary every month.
During the meeting with Nandan Nilekani, chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan directed officials from the school education department to make the Aadhaar linkage compulsory starting August 2013.
Nilekani praised the state administration for its successful rollout of Aadhaar enrolment and other related schemes.
The education department had issued a government resolution in May 2012 directing teachers and non-teaching staff to enrol for the Aadhaar card. Children in government-aided schools were also expected to be enrolled for it.

Efforts are on to enrol school staff on priority basis of the teachers and employees have enrolled for the card.
Chavan has directed the administration to not credit salaries in the absence of the card. The state government transfers Rs27,000 crore to the accounts of teachers and other staff from government and aided schools every month.
An official from the school education department said orders would be issued soon. “We are also directing district collectors to enrol teachers and non-teaching staff on priority,” he said.
