The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now trained its guns on DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his daughter Kanimozhi, alleging a huge cover-up to help the family in the 2G spectrum scam.
Addressing a media conference on Tuesday, AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said the party was in possession of four tapes -- “not verified but appearing genuine” – that indicated the cover-up which Karunanidhi was aware of. Bhushan said he would place the tapes before the Supreme Court, which is monitoring the probe into the 2G scam.
“The conversations between Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi’s secretary M Shanmuganathan, Jaffer Sait, an IPS officer close to the family, and Sharad Kumar Reddy, MD Kalaignar TV, show Karunanidhi was aware of all the dealings which included preparing forged documents to protect Kanimozhi,” Bhushan said.
In its April 2011 chargesheet, the CBI, which is probing the scam, maintained that Kanimozhi was the beneficiary of Rs 200 crore -- kickbacks for 2G licenses given to DB Realty by then telecom minister A Raja. The company had transferred it to Kalaignar TV through a circuitous route between December 2008 and August 2009.
The purported conversations took place between December 2010 and February 2011 and indicated that the documents to show the kickbacks as part of an unsecured loan from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV were forged. The conversations also contained a reference to “multiple transactions of properties by the Tata Group through a subsidiary to an aide of Kanimozhi”.

{{/usCountry}}While the CBI said it has taken note of the development, in Chennai, Karunanidhi told reporters It was “all lies”.
“Allegations made against Tata companies have been repeatedly looked into and investigated by the authorities concerned. These have found that the conduct of Tata entities have been above board,” a Tata spokesperson told PTI.
