Most residents preferred to stay indoors. A few were, however, more forthcoming. “It is a clear case of honour killing. I have never been so close to the family but I always believed her parents were behind the killing,” said Jaikishan, a resident of N-block.

But some spoke in their favour. “How can any parent kill their own child? I am not satisfied with the decision. We always thought the servants did it,” said Sneh, a resident of M-block.

Former principal of DPS, Noida, Nina Sehgal, who was Aarushi’s teacher then, didn’t comment on the court’s decision. “Aarushi was a wonderful person. I don’t want to comment on the court’s decision. But I still don’t believe that a girl like her would be involved in any relationship with Hemraj,” she said.

Another close friend Fiza Jha said, “Her parents loved her. I know them very well. I am very disappointed with the verdict.”
