The Abhishek-Ash chemistry rocks — and that’s the unanimous view. Whosoever has seen JP Dutta’s Umrao Jaan including the members of the Censor Board (the three- hour-long film has been passed without any cuts) has been raving about the jodi.

“The tension in the air was palpable and both have done a great job,” an insider present during a screening says. The screening for the Censors was held on 24 October.

Censor members went up to Dutta and praised the film sky high. In fact, Aishwarya’s performance has also come in for a lot of praise. And thanks to this film, Ash’s image as a non-actor will die its natural death (she is a sensitive actor, Dutta had said) — is the general notion.

Umrao Jaan will be the first release of Abhishek and Aishwarya together after rumours of their affair hit the headlines. It releases on November 3.

A remake of Muzaffar Ali’s path breaking film with Rekha in the lead, the new Umrao Jaan stars Shabana Azmi, Suniel Shetty, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and others.

Director J P Dutta has also decided to auction Aishwarya’s outfit for the song sequence Jhoote Ilzaam in the film, the proceeds of which will go to a Varanasi based NGO called Guria that looks after girls of sex workers.
