The high temperature was manifested in the form of an unusually warm night, when the citizens went to their New Year late night parties sans their winter wear and had to switch on fans to sleep comfortably. The New Year Day sprang another surprise as sun did not show all through the day in the day. Though heavy clouds hung over the City for the day, it did not rain. The disappearance of sun however affected the day temperature and lowered it to 24.4 degrees – one degree below normal.

The met office has blamed a western disturbance over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining North West Madhya Pradesh for the cloudy weather and the consequent rise in day temperature. The City remained cloudy even on New Year eve on Friday and the minimum temperature was recorded on quite higher side on this day too.

Dubey said by Sunday the clouding would clear off as the western disturbance system is moving away from over the State. “Once the skies get clear, the minimum temperatures would start dropping and cold would be felt,’’ the director said.
On Saturday, Bhopal recorded maximum temperature of 24.4 degrees and minimum of 18.0 degree, Indore – 18.8 and 15.0 degrees, Gwalior – 24.5 and 14.9 degrees and Jabalpur – 25.9 and 14.9 degrees. During the last week, the minimum temperature in the City showed gradual rise. On December 25 it was 11.6, December 26 – 10.3, December 27 – 9.8, December 28 – 12.2, December 29 – 12.0, December 30 – 14.1 and December 31 – 16.5.
