TWO MONTHS after the killing of Prof H S Sabharwal in Ujjain allegedly by ABVP men, an assistant professor of D N Jain College here was on Saturday abused and manhandled by a local leader belonging to the same organisation.
The ABVP leader (maha nagar sah mantri) Arvind Kahar allegedly threw a cricket stump with a pointed iron nail at Dr Vinod Soni. The stump hit a leg of the teacher.
Kahar, a former student of D N Jain College, had damaged the botany laboratory on August 14. The college management lodged a complaint with the police but no action was taken.
On Saturday also, the police didn’t register a case against Kahar and even reached the spot late. The police said they sorted out the matter between the two parties.
Denying that that the police were under any pressure, City SP Sidharth Choudhary said they brought Kahar to the police station soon after college principal Dr S N Dwivedi informed them. The assistant professor didn’t register a complaint with the police saying he has forgiven Kahar, Choudhary said.
Lordganj police station Town Inspector Anil Ved said the police acted swiftly but as Dr Soni didn’t want to register the case against Kahar, they couldn’t proceed.
