Even after five days of the acid attack on a law student, police are still unable to find the culprits. Lack of any development in the case is causing an erosion of faith in the police among people, especially among women.
"I think the government needs to be more serious and should put some pressure on the police to act faster. Search operation could have been on a wider scale. The attackers would have been behind the bars if only the politicians have put pressure on the police," said Fiza Qureshi, a BCom student.
Qureshi thinks that with the election going on in the Valley, all political parties have ignored the matter.
"The elections are overshadowing the actions of the police. The administration has turned a blind eye as the facts are not ascertained properly. Earlier, the attackers were said to be motorcyclist, then it was a car. We fail to understand what's happening," said Zain Zahoor, a law student.
Zahoor added that the incident had made women in Srinagar more vulnerable. "Unless the culprits are bought to book, women in the city will feel unsafe."

"In a case of such grave nature, I don't think the police should release sensitive details about the identifiers. They should work on tip offs without letting the attackers know what they are up to," said Mehvish Mushtaq, a computer engineer.

{{/usCountry}}Another engineer Sehrish Mushtaq thinks that the attitude of the people had been biased in the matter. "There is a sense of hypocrisy in the matter. When the army indulges in acts of sexual harassment, they are highlighted and widely protested but when our fellow citizens do the same, we keep quiet and wait for a miraculous development. Both acts need to be protested in the same manner," said Mushtaq.
Meanwhile, acid attack survivors in Delhi have also raised their voice in the matter. "When the attack takes place, the agony is not just physical but mental too. With the police questioning and multiple surgeries going on, it is crucial for people to support her at that time," stated Laxmi, an acid attack survivor who ran a campaign for regulation of acid sales.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said, "We have got several leads and investigators are working round the clock to solve the case as soon as possible. The IGP has directed the SIT to form different teams to track down the guilty at an earliest."
