Delhi Metro seems to be benefiting the most from the admission rush. As students are making a beeline for pre-admission forms at Delhi University (DU), the Metro ridership is growing vertically.
On June 4 — the day the sale of admissions forms began — the number of people travelling on the Vishwavidyalaya line doubled.
The total ridership, which was 6.91 lakh in May, jumped to 7.32 lakh in June.
“There has been a significant jump in the number of people travelling on the yellow line ever since the admission season has begun,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson.
While the number of people frequenting the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station on an average stood at 17,000 in May, the figure spiralled upwards after Delhi University (DU) announced the sale of forms at North Campus’ Arts Faculty and Miranda House.
“Before the admission season began in the last week of May, the footfall at the Vishwavidyalaya (DU) station varied between 17,000 and 17,500. The figure has almost doubled after the start of the admission season. The footfall varied between 22,300 and 25,500 on June 4 and 5,” he added.
Despite the fact that the forms were available in 10 colleges and 12 post offices, students aspiring to make it to DU said that they preferred going to North Campus to get a feel of the campus.

{{/usCountry}}“Even though forms were being sold in South Campus, we went to North Campus to get a feel of the campus environment. And Metro was the most convenient way to get there,” said Manisha Parmar, who lives in Kalkaji.
Regular commuters claimed trains remained crowded throughout the day."I travel to Kashmere Gate every day, but the rush in the train these days is unbearable. The train is jam packed with students on their way to the university," said Sonakshi Pandey, a resident of Kailash Colony.
