The ruling Congress in Assam ,on Tuesday, accused the opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) of surrendering its regionalism to BJP besides diluting its focus on price rise in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections."After its seat-sharing understanding with BJP, the AGP has surrendered its regionalism to the saffron party," Congress spokesman Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters.

"During the last assembly poll the AGP manifesto was based on core regionalism. In their earlier manifesto the AGP had said the people were their high command and that they had no bosses. But this line has been dropped in their new manifesto," Sarma said."The AGP had earlier focussed on price rise, but this time is silent on it. By this we understand that they already know that price will rise if the BJP comes to power as it is a party of businessmen," he said.

Sarma also pointed out that the AGP was critical of all other parties save the (minority dominated) AUDF. "The AGP, BJP and AUDF have a tacit understanding to defeat the Congress. Welfare of the people is not their concern".
