SD Bhosle (54), the senior security officer, died while trying to stop the four accused from fleeing with the Rs 55 lakh consignment of gold and silver coins from the Air-India cargo on Monday morning.
Bhosle, a former Border Security Force (BSF) jawan had earlier shown exemplary bravery during his postings near the border areas.
“He had earlier been a part of quite a few battles and had fought the enemies of the nation. In the end, he died a soldier’s death,” said Dashrath Bhosle (40), the brother of the deceased.
Bhosle succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening.
He was severly injured after being dragged for at least 50 metres by the Indica car in which the four accused sped away after picking up four boxes containing the coins.
The coins were meant to be flown to Hyderabad for an order from Pidilite Industries Limited.
Dashrath added that his brother who was employed for over a decade with Air India was on leave on Monday and had just gone there to complete some other work.
“However, once there, his boss asked him to work due to the staff shortage on that day,” Dashrath said, standing near the balcony on the first floor of the Air India colony in Kalina, where the Bhosles live.

{{/usCountry}}Bhosle is survived by two married daughters, wife and son. A relative of the deceased said Bhosle was mild-mannered and man of few words.
“With a smiling face he would greet every acquaintance who came his way,” a relative said.
“I last spoke to him at the hospital. Seeing his injuries I realised then that I am speaking to him for the last time,” said another relative.
