The AIIMS Coordination Committee, demanding AIIMS in Jammu, has given a call for three-day Jammu bandh from July 31. Meanwhile, the lawyers have suspended their work from Friday here. The decision was taken in a meeting of the committee attended by its groups affiliated to it, including Bar Association Jammu and Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu.

It will be third bandh observed on the AIIMS issue.

"The BJP, having failed to honour its commitment, has forced us to give call for bandh. The party which had got huge mandate in the Jammu could have averted the situation and the blame lies squarely on it," said BAJ president Abhinav Sharma, who is also chairman of the Coordination Committee, an umbrella organisation of many non-political groups.

The CCI had earlier said it will give call for the Jammu bandh. The committee in its meeting decided to go ahead with it. A complete Jammu bandh was earlier observed on April 24 and May 27 after which deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh in an agreement with the Coordination committee had given a written assurance that AIIMs will be announced for Jammu by the central government on or before July 20.

CCI president Rakesh Gupta and president of transporters associations TS Wazir said the business and transporters would support the bandh and the government must understand that it can't test the patience of the people anymore.
