ALL INDIA Trade Union Congress (AITUC) would hold a large-scale demonstration in the City and a public meeting at Yaadgar-e-Shahjani Park on Monday.
AITUC’s national general secretary and Member of Parliament, Gurudas Dasgupta would address the public meeting at 10.30 am, which would be followed by a rally from the park to Vidhan Sabha. The AITUC would stage a demonstration as a token of protest against various issues. Apart from Dasgupta, AITUC’s national secretary GL Dhar, CPI’s state secretary Mahendra Bajpai and several other union and party leaders would address the meeting.
Addressing a press conference here today, AITUC state president Krishna Modi said that two opposite parties are at the helm at the Center and the state but both are treading on the same path. ‘Policies followed by the UPA at the center and the BJP in the state are anti-people and anti-labour,’ he remarked.
He alleged that the UPA government had failed to follow the common minimum programme (CMP) and had been taking unilateral decisions. “’Even the labourers and workers are being suppressed in this regime and the state bureaucracy is at its nadir,’ Modi charged.
The AITUC has decided to go for more protest demonstrations, if the Central and state governments failed to give ears to its demands.
AITUC state committee’s general secretary Roop Singh Chauhan alleged that on one side government had been selling-off shares of the PSUs and on the other reduction in EPF’s interest rate had affected large numbers of people in the country.
He said that due to government policies small and marginal farmers and bidi workers in the state were on the brink of starvation. ‘In two and half years, the state has witnessed three CMs, and as a result serious issues like water, power and others have continuously been neglected and crime rate is on rise,’ Chauhan alleged.

{{/usCountry}}Remarking on the visit of George Bush, CPI’s state secretary Mahendra Bajpai said except Congress and the BJP all other parties had protested against the visit and the Nuclear Deal. ‘The state government in its budget failed to address the pressing issue of employment generation and instead it has closed down State Transport Corporation and PWD would be the next,’ he claimed.
