Ajat Shatru is likely to be the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Nagrota constituency. Shatru, who was National Conference (NC) MLC, joined the BJP this week.

Shatru won from this constituency in 1996 assembly elections. In 2002, he lost to BJP's Jugal Kishore by a margin of 67 votes and in 2008 by 1,620 votes again to Jugal, who has now been elected MP from Jammu-Udhampur constituency.

An announcement in this regard is likely to be made on Friday at a press conference scheduled to be addressed by MoS PMO Jatinder Singh and senior party leader Ram Madhav.

Jugal was pushing for the candidature of his brother but was denied so by the party high command. Ajat, if he gets mandate, will be in direct fight with NC candidate Devender Singh Rana, who had invested heavily in this constituency.
