According to them, the housing society did not given him a no-objection certificate (NOC) as the flat that he wanted to buy had not been vacated.

“Once the person staying in the flat leaves, we will give Hashmi the NOC. We are not discriminating against any community. The film fraternity and the media have hyped up this issue. No one can scare us by asking the minorities commission to intervene,” said Jay Prakash Chetry, secretary of Nibbana.

According to the residents, it is mandatory for the flat owner to take permission from the committee before selling it. But, they claimed, the seller did not approach the committee members.

“I am shocked at the accusation. Persons of all communities are welcome in the building,” said Partha Sarathy, a resident of Nibbana.

On Friday, there was a melee at Nibbana as the electronic media tried to enter the
building.
