The father-son duo from Congress -- M Krishnappa and Priya Krishna has won the Vijayanagar and Govindaraj Nagar seats respectively. The younger one is wealthy and an eligible bachelor too. The other father-son pair is the former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa, 75, and his son SS Mallikarjuna, 45, who have claimed the seats of Davanagere South and Davanagere North constituencies.

Kin of prominent Congress politicians, who have won and deepened their clout in the party include: Priyank Kharge (Chittapur constituency), son of union minister Mallikarjuna Kharge and Ajay Singh (Jevargi), son of former chief minister N Dharam Singh. Significantly, both the sons had lost by-elections in 2009 and 2010 respectively but their fathers’ clout in the party ensured them the tickets again.

In the BJP too, familial connect found a place in the polls. Umesh Katti, brother of MP Ramesh Katti has won; state minister Aravind Limbavali and his brother S Raghu have also won their Dasarahalli and CV Raman Nagar seats.

Of the brothers M Srinivas and M Krishnappa who contested from Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Bangalore south constituencies, Krishnappa emerged victorious. Home minister in the BJP cabinet R Ashok won from Padmanabhanagar, however, his cousin A Ravi lost to Krishna Byre Gowda in Byatarayanapura constituency.
