One of the game's great enigmas. Blessed with talent and huge power, Mauresmo looked set to win a host of grand slam titles when she reached the final of the Australian Open in 1999, losing to Martina Hingis.
Admits to being affected by pressure, particularly in the French Open, where she has still to progress beyond the quarter-finals.
However she is enjoying one of her best years on tour, winning three titles and moving to a career-high number two in the world rankings.
Reached the semi-finals in New York in 2002 but is still looking for her first grand slam title.
