“Otherwise a good friend of mine, Mitra made an offer to the Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi to showcase the state as an ideal investment destination in the UK. He reached the UK much before Modi arrived and made all attempts to showcase Gujarat,” Yechury said at a press conference here on Friday.

Yechury also pointed out that after Gujarat became the new destination of Tata Motors’ Nano project upon its exit from Singur in the Hooghly district, Mitra described it as the right destination for the project.

He further claimed that Banerjee’s dalliances with the BJP was proved yet again in 2001, when immediately after the defeat of the Congress-Trinamool alliance in the state assembly polls, she switched back to the BJP-lead NDA.
