On a day when Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emerged to claim a fruitful meeting with him, BJP president Amit Shah met party leaders in closed-door meetings in Kolkata against the backdrop of the bigger picture that Modi still needed Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s tacit support in the Parliament.
Like his earlier July 7 meeting with party leaders in Howrah, Shah was torn between the compulsions of going on an all-out attack against the ruling party of Bengal and the need to temper the thrust as the Centre needed her cooperation, and had to constantly walk a tightrope.
On Wednesday, in an interactive session by the city-based Indian Chamber of Commerce did Shah utter strong words against the state government.
“If the investment money goes to the kitty of Saradha, there cannot be an improvement in the investment atmosphere in the state. If there are bomb blasts every day, how will the investors regain confidence on the state,” Shah said.
According to sources, in his meetings with party leaders such as Kailash Vijayvargia and Rahul Sinha, Shah focused on rejuvenating the party.
“Our national president discussed our plan for Bengal in the coming days. By September we will hit the streets in a number of agitations and rallies would follow,” BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh told HT.
