In what is the first attempt by a publication in the UK to compile a list of rich Indians in India, the names of Amitabh Bachchan, Shahnaz Hussain and Sachin Tendulkar vie with the industrialists and business leaders in the country.

Bachchan is slotted at 17th position with an estimated wealth of Rs 2 billion, Tendulkar is at 18th with Rs 2 billion, too, while Shahnaz Hussain is at 14th with an estimated Rs 4 billion.

The publication has excluded Lakshmi Mittal and the Hinduja Brothers from the UK Rich List of Asians but has included the Hindujas in the list of rich Indians in India. Its argument is that the two do not have much asset in England and it has listed only those who are holding assets in this country. The UK list of rich Asians is headed by hoteliers, the Jatania Brothers (HT March 22)and includes Lord Swraj Paul.

The list of the first 20 published by the weekly, Eastern Eye, is headed by Azim Premji, whose wealth is estimated to be Rs 176 billion. He is followed by Shiv Nadar whose wealth is given as Rs 69 billion.

Mukesh and Anil Ambani of Reliance are at the third position with their fortune assessed to be Rs 50 billion. NR Narayan Murthy is in the fourth slot with estimated fortune of Rs 47 billion. He is followed at the fifth, sixth and seventh positions by Malvinder Singh and Shivendra Singh of Ranbaxy (RS 13 billion), Rahul Bajaj (Rs 25 billion and Subhash Chandra of Zee TV whose wealth is estimated at Rs 22 billion, respecively.

Kumar Mangalam Birla (Rs 21 billion) and the Hinduja family (Rs 18 billion) and Dabur's RC Burman (Rs 18 billion) are in eighth, ninth and 10th slots. It is surprising that the weekly as estiamted the assets of the Hindujas at Rs 18 billion, when their spokesman had clearly stated that the brothers have not transferred their assets and their holdings in Britain remain unchanged.

B. Ramalinga Raju of Satyam Computers(Rs 16 billion), Vijay Mallya (Rs 6 billion), Gautam Singhania of Raymonds (Rs 6 billion, Niranjan Hiranandani (Rs 4 illions), Anu Aga of Thermax (Rs 3 bllion) are 11th, 12th, 13th and 15th positions.

The list of 20 ends with Naina Kidwai in Banking and Finance (Rs 1.7 billion) at 19th and Sapoorji Pallonji (Rs 1 billio) at the 20th.
