And, 15 links break off the human chain

THE HUMAN chain formed by the Raja?s tenants against their eviction developed chinks when about 15 underprivileged occupants of the Imambara Malka Zamania in Golaganj vacated their premises on their own in compliance of the Supreme Court order. In fact, the Mahmudabad property tangle presented a study in contrast on Thursday. With no roof over their head while these poor tenants of the erstwhile Raja were literally out on the street, the affluent ones took to street organising a torchlight procession from Janpath Market. On Friday, they would up their ante by burning the effigy of the scion of Mahmudabad to register their protest. Ironically, only a couple of days back these well-heeled tenants on the chopping block had paraded these poor occupants before the media-persons as a ‘shield’ against their court ordained eviction by the administration authorities.

“Almost all the 15 tenants of Imambara Malk Zamania have vacated their premises voluntarily,” said Sub Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Manoj Rai, also managing officer of the Custodian of Enemy Property. He said District Magistrate Ramendra Tripath had constituted five teams one each for the five properties that are to be handed over to the scion of Mahmudabad. Headed by a magistrate and comprising a police circle officer, zonal officer, tax superintendent and an engineer of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), these teams would inspect the building and prepare the necessary documents before possession of the property would be handed over to the Raja.
