Police in Nellore district have launched an investigation into the incident where four persons lost their vision after they underwent a free cataract operation, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
Four persons lost their vision and several others developed severe eye complications after doctors at the private Bollineni Eye Hospital and Research Centre in Nellore conducted cataract surgery on them last week.
The Nellore Fourth Town police registered a suo motu case under IPC Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) against the hospital management and doctors who performed the operations, Nellore District Superintendent of Police B Malla Reddy said.
"So far no arrests have been made as a detailed investigation is underway into the technical aspects and also whether it was doctors negligence or that of the medical staff that led to complications," he said.
"We will definitely take action against those responsible for the incident once the probe is over."
The Nellore Town DSP is conducting the probe and based on the report, arrests will be made, Reddy told PTI by phone.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, a four-member team of doctors from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital here visited the Nellore hospital to inquire into the incident. Those suffering from eye complications are being treated at Chennai's Shankar Nethralaya.
