Andhra Pradesh's formal split to happen at break-neck speed

This will make it one of the quickest splits in the history of re-organisation of states---between Parliament's ratification and the scheduled date of the split.

For a state that came into existence after more than five decades of political agitation, Telangana's creation, in procedural terms, will happen at break-neck speed.

With the formal passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2014 in the Rajya Sabha, the President now has to give assent to the bill. It has been learnt that his nod, notification and the formal division will all take place in less than 10 days.

This will make it one of the quickest splits in the history of re-organisation of states---between Parliament's ratification and the scheduled date of the split.

Elections to both Seemandhra and Telangana assemblies will be held along with Lok Sabha polls this summer. Seemandhra has 175 legislative and 25 Lok Sabha seats, while Telangana is to have 119 assembly seats and 17 Lok Sabha seats.
