Around 9 pm, a strong crowed of people from sectors 18 and 19 gheraoed the sub-station and indulged in sabotage to protest LESA failure to restore power supply to their localities even five hours after the breakdown.

Later, they switched off the entire sub-station sending various localities into darkness.

The agitated people said that they would allow other localities to get electricity only after the fault was repaired to restore power supply in their areas.

The stand –off could be over after more than one hour when the police reached the spot and took many people into custody for the ‘unlawful’ act forcibly switching off power.

On the other hand, residents put up a road blockade on the busy Kanpur road in the evening demanding compensation for Ramesh Kumar Rawat who died due to electric shock.

Rawat (35), a milkman, who had gone to distribute milk in Bara Baraha area, had parked his bicycle against an electricity pole. Meanwhile it started raining.

As he tried to take away his bicycle, he was electrocuted and died on the spot.
