Irked over reported malfunctioning of EVMs, suspected to be manipulated by PRP workers, Garikapadu villagers damaged the polling devices, police said.

Irked over reported malfunctioning of EVMs, suspected to be manipulated by PRP workers, Garikapadu villagers damaged the polling devices, police said.

However, the polling officers were quick to dismiss this as "unfounded apprehension".

Garikapdu villagers of Vinukonda Assembly segment in this district suspected that irrespective of the button they pressed, the vote was cast in favour of Praja Rajyam Party.

Irked over this they damaged the EVMs in protest.

Central observers, who inspected the polling following allegations, recommended re-poll in two polling booths.

Meanwhile, the local sarpanch was arrested and later released as the voters protested.
