ANN commisioner, others injured in stone-pelting

THE ALLAHABAD Nagar Nigam (ANN) Municipal Commissioner Satya Narayan Srivastava and his subordinate KD Singh along with other officials sustained minor injuries as local residents near Prayag railway station resorted to stone pelting here on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident occurred while the Nagar Nigam anti-encroachment drive led by the Municipal was being carried out on Bank Road and on the road leading to Prayag station. As the squad reached near Prayag station after removing encroachment from Bank Road, a group of residents came on the street opposed removal of illegal encroachment on roadside. The mob of residents resorted to stone pelting on the squad members resulting in injuries to many.
In the melee, Srivastava received injuries on his hands while a stone hit the leg of another official KD Singh. Both the officials were immediately provided first aid. On receiving the information the police rushed the spot and brought the situation under control. The corporation officials lodged an FIR in the matter.
According to the ANN sources, the incident could have been averted had there been adequate police force. It may be mentioned that NN has launched anti-encroachment drives following Allahabad High Court directives. The court had even directed the district administration to provide proper police force while a drive was being carried out.
