Another batch of pilgrims head towards Amarnath

A batch of 1,240 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp on Monday for their further journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir amid tight security arrangements.

A batch of 1,240 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp on Monday for their further journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir amid tight security arrangements.

Police sources said the 25th batch of pilgrims comprising 1,240 devotees left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Sunday around 5am and the convoy included 44 vehicles.

The batch comprising 950 men, 230 women, 15 children and 45 sadhus left for Srinagar to perform Amarnath yatra.

With Monday's batch, a total of 45,846 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for Amarnath so far.

Police sources said another batch of 2,443 pilgrims, comprising 2,043 men, 345 women and 55 sadhus, left the Pahalgam base camp on traditional yatra route.

A total of 2.93 lakh pilgrims had performed darshan till Sunday in the yatra that started on June 28.
