Another swine flu death in Chandigarh, six new cases

A 60-year-old man has become the latest swine flu victim in Chandigarh that has reported six new H1N1 cases, officials said Wednesday.

A 60-year-old man has become the latest swine flu victim in Chandigarh that has reported six new H1N1 cases, officials said Wednesday.

“The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Kashmir Singh, a resident of Kapurthala town in Punjab. We have informed the Punjab health authorities and have told them to quarantine Singh’s family members and those people who came in direct contact with him,” a Chandigarh health official said here Wednesday.

“In addition, there are six new cases of swine flu. We had collected their throat and nasal swab samples on Tuesday and their reports are positive. They include three women from Chandigarh and three men each from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh,” the official added.

So far, nearly 700 suspected cases of swine flu have been reported in city hospitals, out of which 225 tested positive. These positive cases include over 60 students and over 30 doctors.

According to official records, 27 people have died due to the virus in this region till date.
