The Gurgaon police launched a drive against pressure horn on Sunday and challaned around 100 people violating the rule on the Delhi-Gurgaon Toll Plaza.
The drive was led by DCP Maheshwar Dayal. It was conducted from 10.30am to 1.30pm and 5.30pm to 10pm.
The police have asked those driving heavy vehicles to use company-made inbuilt horns, instead of pressure horns.
“We have received several complaints regarding honking without reason on city roads. It is the most disturbing noise. It can be easily noticed at traffic signals, where drivers start blowing horns without waiting for the light to turn green, or the traffic to move ahead. We have decided to make people aware of stop blowing horns unnecessarily,” said Dayal.
“We want to generate awareness among people against unnecessary honking. Anti-honking slogans and messages, urging motorists not to blow horns unnecessarily, will be displayed on roads. Some people blow horns continuously when they are caught in a jam,” he added.
Recently, the city police wrote a letter to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), requesting it to put anti-honking signboards, in MG Road.
With this, the residents near MG Road expect some respite. The incessant honking of vehicles has been creating trouble for them, especially during the night. Besides, it is a major cause of sound pollution in the city.

{{/usCountry}}“Unwanted noise adversely affects the health and behaviour of people. It causes annoyance, depression, hyper-tension, stress, hearing impairment, memory loss and panic attacks. It also leads to road accidents,” said Rakesh Sharma, a social activist.
Earlier, the police, along with several NGOs and other organizations, had conducted anti-honking drive in various parts of the city.
