Director, Medical and Health, Dr Rambabu said the vaccines would reach Karnal on May 11 and a team of State medical officials would bring them to Uttar Pradesh.

The drive will be carried out from May 15 to 30. He said medical officers were directed to be present at primary health centres and community health centres during the drive.

Rambabu said the second phase of the drive from May 25 to 30 would focus on Siddharthnagar and Sant Kabirnagar districts.

He further said the number of teams could be increased. He also said principal secretary, Health, Neeta Chaudhary and Basti and Gorakhpur divisional commissioner Moolchand Yadav would check the booths.

Rambabu said health officials would ensure effective booth management. All arrangements have been made for the drive. The administration was cooperating with health officials, he added.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Rambabu said that taking note of news items published in various dailies, the Health Department had directed divisional expert Dr DK Srivastav to look into the matter. Rambabu claimed samples were collected from six places, including the BRD Medical College area, Ghosipurwa, Basharatpur and Semra to check the density of larva. The report said the larva did not cause spread of diseases. He further said there was no trace of the variety of mosquitoes which were carriers of JE.
