Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party on Wednesday authorised party chief Sonia Gandhi to decide its new leader to succeed K Rosaiah as the Chief Minister.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party on Wednesday authorised party chief Sonia Gandhi to decide its new leader to succeed K Rosaiah as the Chief Minister.

The meeting, which took place hours after Rosaiah stepped down citing personal reasons, passed a resolution unanimously authorising Gandhi to decide on Rosaiah's successor.

"The CLP meeting held on November 24 unanimously resolved to request Congress President Sonia Gandhi to select the new leader of CLP," the resolution said.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who along with a battery of senior party leaders that attended the CLP meeting, said the decision will be taken by the Congress President and communicated to the media.

"No other issue was discussed or raised," he said. Out of 156 Congress MLAs, most of them were present at the meeting.

Another resolution was adopted placing on record the services of Rosaiah.

Besides Mukherjee, senior leaders A K Antony, Veerappa Moily and Ghulam Nabi Azad were present at the meeting.
