If the Noida authority’s claim are to be believed — the foul smell emanating from the Shahdara drain, which irritates shoppers in Sector 18 market, will soon be a thing of the past.
According to a survey carried out by the authority, the market witnesses 2.5 lakh footfalls daily.
The authority's new revitalisation plan of the commercial hub includes the cleaning of the drain. To get rid of the stench emanating from the drain, the authority is planning to carry out aquatic plantation around it.
"Aquatic plants clean dirty water and smell good. Apart from this unique plantation, we have suggested the authority to cover the drain," said Anil Bansal, an architect who has prepared the market's revitalisation plan.
On Friday, the Sector 18 traders' association requested the authority to start redevelopment of the market soon.
"We are working hard on the revitalisation plan. We are about to finalise the budget estimate and other formalities. The work will start in two-three months," said Pramanshu, additional chief executive officer (ACEO), Noida authority.
The authority has given green signal to the plantation, but it is yet to decide if the drain will be covered. "We will discuss if the drain will be covered or not and the other options to get rid of the stink," said Sanjeev Saran, chief executive officer (CEO), Noida authority.
