An army havaldar allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Kaluchak area of Jammu, police said on Thursday.

Havaldar Nand Kishore Kushwaha, a resident of Dinapur in Uttar Pradesh and posted at EME workshop at Kaluchak, shot himself dead with his service weapon last evening, they said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the deceased was in a disturbed state of mind owing to some family problems, they said.

Army has initiated a court of inquiry into the incident.
