Spokesman Lt Col Goswami said in a release that Lt Gen SK Dahiya, who was major general of Army Supply Corps (ASC) when the multi-million rupee frozen meat scandal took place, was indicted by a court of inquiry.

Irregularities had come to light over the supply of poor quality of meat to soldiers stationed in the most inhospitable terrain of Ladakh where temperatures drop up to minus 40 degrees Celsius in winter.

The identity of the four other officers indicted in the scandal was not revealed.

"A court of inquiry was instituted at the behest of Army Headquarters to enquire into the alleged irregularities in the operation of the frozen meat contract in Ladakh Sector in the Northern Command," Goswami said.

The spokesman said the competent authority had directed administrative action against all the officers indicted by the court of inquiry.
