“It is indeed intriguing that during the communal clashes in Lucknow and Varanasi blasts, the officials were missing from duty,” said state NCP chief Ramesh Dixit. “We must also ponder over the fact why the terrorists targeted UP and not any other UPA or BJP-ruled State,” said state Forward Block chief Ram Kishore.

They said the blasts were designed to destroy the secular fabric of the country. By threatening to embarking on a ‘rath yatra’ LK Advani, they said, was again trying to whip up communal passion and cash in on the situation.

Both Mohd Ahmad of Jamaat-e-Islami and Mohd Suleman of the Indian National League criticised the manner in which sketches of the suspects were released and authorities jumped to conclusion in linking the blasts with Muslims. The party leaders accused the SP of having an understanding with the BJP.

Can the persecution of Palestinians be described as an act of Christian or Jewish terrorism or for that matter the demolition of Babri Masjid be termed Hindu terrorism?, he asked.

“We strongly condemned the blasts and expressed our deep anguish for the families of the victims when the news reached us during the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board session in Bangalore on March 8,” he said.
