The impact of rise in temperature was evident here as the roads wore a deserted look and people preferred to confine themselves in their houses.
Make-shift shops of the juice of raw mango (panna), wood-apple and sugarcane have been set up along the roads. People like to drink fruit juice to escape heat strokes in the summer. The sale of lassi has also witnessed remarkable increase in view of the rise in temperature.
The maximum temperature during the day has been hovering between 35 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius for the past one week . According to the Met department, maximum day temperature was recorded at 39.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday while the minimum temperature was recorded at 16.0 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, the maximum day temperature was recorded at 39.4 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature was recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday which was 2.5 degrees more in comparison to Friday’s maximum day temperature of 37.0 degrees Celsius.
Eminent meteorologist and former faculty member of BHU Prof BRD Gupta said that maximum day temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius was average in the month of April and the present temperature was also average temperature.
He predicted that the maximum temperature might cross 40 degrees Celsius in April but due to the western disturbance, the maximum temperature would also come down from time to time.
This kind of climate has also had an adverse impact on the standing crop of wheat. Agricultural scientist of Banaras Hindu University Dr Ramesh Chand said that rise in mercury in the month of April would adversely affect the extra late sowing of wheat crop.
