Assam continued to be in the grip of unabated flood fury, with the deluge from river Brahmaputra and its tributaries leaving 11 persons dead and thousands homeless in 19 districts, official sources said.
More than ten lakh people have been affected by the current wave of floods, which has wrecked crops and property, the sources said.
The flood has so far claimed 11 lives - all of them drowning in incidents of boat capsize in flood waters.
The situation in worst-hit Dhemaji deteriorated further following a breach of a vital Brahmaputra dyke at Karengchapori last night, which led to the submergence of 80 villages, affected more than one lakh people.
Road and railway communication in the district has remained disrupted since June 12 as Jiadhol river washed away four kms of the national highway at Samarjan.
The alternate surface communication from Ghilamara to Dhemaji was also cut off last week, disrupting movement of traffic carrying essential commodities to Dhemaji and Jonai subdivisions in Assam and Likabali and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, the sources said.
Meanwhile, heavy and continuous rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh aggravated the flood situation, with Siang river in the state flushing out huge quantities of water and raising the water level of Simen river in Jonai.
