A bus hit a goods truck which then ploughed into a second bus coming from the other direction at Khanot, 210 kms north of Karachi.

The drivers of two more buses, which were following the truck failed to control their vehicles and crashed into each other, local police officer Sulaiman Jat, told the agency.

"Apparently the accident took place because of overspeeding and wrong overtaking," he said.

The casualties were taken to hospital in nearby Hyderabad city.

"All the injured are in stable condition," doctor Aziz Rahman Bhatti told AFP by telephone.
